Family caregivers are often referred to as the backbone of America’s long-term care system. A 2013 report from AARP, states that in Nebraska, family caregivers provided 182 million hours of care-worth an estimated $2.5 billion-to their parents, spouses, partners, and other adult loved one. (read more). Respite care offers individuals or family members temporary relief from the daily routine and stress that can come with providing ongoing care. Respite can play a critical role in strengthening family stability and maintaining the health of the family caregiver.
